Reiki (Japanese rei – universal, ki – vital energy) is a gentle and relaxing spiritual healing method. It was founded in Japan by Usui Mikao in the 1920s and introduced into the West by Hawayo Takata in the 1930s. A Reiki practitioner taps into an inexhaustible wellspring of Universal Life Energy, and then utilizes this energy flow to encourage physical wellness, mental stability and spiritual attunement.
Reiki treatment realigns the body’s inner energy patterns with Universal Vital Force, thereby thawing out existing energy blockages and reinvigorating ki flow. In a Reiki session, the client lies down on a treatment table. No clothes need be removed. The practitioner’s hands are lightly placed on or just above the body.
Reiki can induce a wide range of sensations. Although the experience is always unique and subjective, common impressions include feelings of warmth, density and localized tingling. A deep state of body and mind relaxation is always present.
After a Reiki session, it is advisable to drink plenty of water as this will enhance the benefits of the treatment.
Reiki treatment has a definite positive effect on health; it can energize and relax the body, reduce pain, stress, anxiety and fatigue, accelerate recovery from injuries or surgery as well as lessen symptoms.
No, Reiki is a non-dogmatic healing method. Its benefits will be received regardless of personal beliefs.
